Six Alexandria Businesses Recognized for Commitment to Employee Health and Wellness
Alexandria, VA - January 20, 2016 - Work Well, Live Well, the newest workgroup of the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 Healthy Workplace Awards. The awards recognize businesses in Alexandria that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to employee health and wellness.
“We started Work Well, Live Well to share best employee-based wellness practices and to encourage other local business to take a holistic and fully vested approach in their most important asset, their employees. I would love to see more Alexandria based businesses pay for onsite personal training, offer group fitness classes, incentivize healthy behavior, provide healthy snacks in the office, and eventually have an on-site wellness professional on staff. However, there are smaller steps that can be made to have just as much of an impact and that is what we hope to get across; everyone can make their workplace healthier.” said Samantha Whiteside, Chief Wellness Officer of The Motley Fool.

A recent Harvard University study found that every dollar a business spends on wellness programs, saves $3.27 in medical costs and $2.73 in absenteeism costs. Not only does a comprehensive workplace wellness program benefit a company’s bottom line, it also can be an effective tool for retaining employees and attracting new talent. Roughly half of employees want on-site fitness opportunities and time for healthy activities at work, according to a 2014 Quantum Workplace survey.
