Early Voting For 2026 Election Begins: What's On The Alexandria Ballot

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria voters will choose their representatives for the U.S. House and Senate in the Nov. 3 general election and decide on three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.

Early in-person voting begins Friday, Sept. 18, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 31.

U.S. Senate

Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Warner is seeking another term against Republican Bert Mizusawa, who won the Republican nomination in the Aug. 4 primary.

The candidates appearing on Alexandria's ballot are:

• Mark Warner — Democrat
• Bert Mizusawa — Republican

8th Congressional District

Alexandria is part of Virginia's 8th Congressional District.

Democratic incumbent Rep. Don Beyer is seeking another term after winning the Democratic primary in August. He faces Republican Tony Sabio, Libertarian Shelly Arnoldi and independent Tim Sharman in the general election.

The candidates are:

• Donald S. Beyer Jr. — Democrat
• Tony A. Sabio — Republican
• Shelly M. Arnoldi — Libertarian
• Tim S. Sharman — Independent

Beyer defeated four challengers — Michael Duffin, Adam Dunigan, Mo Seifeldein and Lorena Thorne Bruner — in the Democratic primary. Sabio had already secured the Republican nomination before the primary.

Three Constitutional Amendments

Alexandria voters will also decide three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution. Each will appear as a separate question on the ballot.

The proposals concern abortion, marriage and restoration of voting rights for people convicted of felonies after they complete their prison sentences.

Each proposed amendment will appear as a separate ballot question.

• Question 1: reproductive rights

• Question 2: same-sex marriage

• Question 3: restoration of voting rights

Early Voting In Person

Alexandria residents have two options for in-person voting during portions of the early-voting period.

Sept. 18 through Oct. 31

Voters can cast ballots at the Office of Voter Registration & Elections, 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100.

The office will generally be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed Oct. 12.

Additional weekend and extended hours at the Royal Street office are:

• Sunday, Oct. 18: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 24: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Oct. 25: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Monday, Oct. 26 through Thursday, Oct. 29: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 31: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library, 5005 Duke St., will serve as Alexandria's second early-voting location beginning Oct. 18.

Voting hours are:

• Sunday, Oct. 18: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Friday, Oct. 23: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 24: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Oct. 25: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Monday, Oct. 26 through Thursday, Oct. 29: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• Friday, Oct. 30: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 31: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The final day to vote early in person is Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m.

Early Voting By Mail

Alexandria voters may also vote by mail.

The deadline for the Office of Voter Registration & Elections to receive a mail ballot application is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. You can submit applications online through the Virginia Department of Elections or by submitting one to Alexandria's elections office.

Completed mail ballots must either be returned to the elections office by 7 p.m. on Election Day or be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by noon Friday, Nov. 6.

A secure outdoor ballot drop box will also be available around the clock outside the Office of Voter Registration & Elections through 7 p.m. Election Day. Beatley Library will have a drop box during its early-voting hours, and drop boxes will be available at Alexandria polling places from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Key Voting Dates

• Sept. 18: Early in-person voting begins.
• Oct. 23: Regular voter-registration deadline.
• Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.: Deadline to request a ballot by mail.
• Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.: Early in-person voting ends.
• Nov. 3: Election Day.
