Easter 2026 Grocery And Retail Hours: What’s Open And Closed In VA

Most traditional grocery stores in Virginia will be open at least part of the day on Easter Sunday, although some big-box and warehouse stores will be closed for the major Christian holiday.

Easter Sunday falls on April 5 this year. Unlike Christmas, its date varies because it is based on both the solar and lunar cycles, and the timing of the vernal equinox, which occurs from March 19-21. The equinox is a fixed date of March 21 on the ecclesiastic calendar, and Easter can be as early as March 22 or as late as April 25.

If you need to make a last-minute grocery run, it’s a good idea to call ahead or check store locators to see if local stores have adjusted their hours. It’s a good idea to fill prescriptions and pick up other medications before Easter. Although CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are open, expect shorter hours and reduced staffing.
