Elizabeth's Counter To Be Replaced With New Concept In Alexandria

Elizabeth's Counter, a donut and vegan shop that replaced Sugar Shack Donuts, will close and become a new concept this winter.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Elizabeth's Counter, a donut and vegan food shop in Old Town West, will close and prepare to become a new concept.

The restaurant at 804 N Henry Street announced on its website it will close on Sunday, Aug. 28. Elizabeth's Counter had replaced Sugar Shack Donuts in 2020.

"After making it through the pandemic we have determined that our hand-made donut model is not well suited to the current economic realities of the restaurant business," the Elizabeth's Counter website stares.

While Elizabeth's Counter will be no more, the space will reopen in the late fall or winter as a new concept called Railbird Kitchen with traditional and vegan food as well as cocktails. It will remain owned by Rob Krupicka, a former Alexandria City Council and Virginia House of Delegates member.
