Alexandria and the War of 1812: A Town Occupied

Come to Carlyle House Historic Park on Saturday, August 18 to learn about the burning of Washington and surrender of Alexandria in August of 1814. Knowledgeable historians will guide visitors through the difficulties encountered by Americans during what has been termed “America’s Second War for Independence.” Lectures will take place in Virginia’s oldest bank building, the former home of the Bank of Alexandria, from 10 am – 1 pm and tours of the museum will take place from 10 am - 4 pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12. Children’s activities are included in the price of admission. The museum is located at 121 N.
