Family FieldFest Will Celebrate New Multi-Purpose Athletic Field

Day filled with activities, food, music and fun coming up this month.

Alexandria Renew Enterprises and the City of Alexandria’s Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs Department will host the first-ever Family FieldFest Saturday, Oct. 24 to celebrate the opening of Alexandria’s new Multi-Purpose Athletic Field.

Family FieldFest will have all sorts of activities for children and adults, according to the organizers. Some of the fun includes pumpkin-carving, face painting, live music and free demonstrations from local companies with a focus on healthy and sustainable living.

The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Field, 1820 Limerick St. in Alexandria (see map below).

Here’s more about the event:

  • Musical performances by: The Noyze, 4 Short A Dozen, Wes Tucker and the Skillets, Joe Chioocca Band, Purple Isn’t Six
  • Recreation classes by: One Life Fitness, Potomac Kempo, Ease Yoga and Café, and LocalMotion
  • More than 50 local vendors will be on hand, including non-profits and businesses and food vendors including Sensi Juice, Stomping Ground, Buzz Bakery, Sweet Fire Donna’s and Teaism.

Here’s a schedule of events:

ECOLAND
Pick and paint a pumpkin and test your taste buds at an apple tasting. Be sure to make time for wellness at any of the free on-site yoga classes.
• 11:15-11:45 – Ease Rise and Shine Yoga
• 12 -12:30 – Kid’s Yoga and Movement
• 1:00-1:30 – Demonstration of Curvy Yoga for Bigger Bodied Yogis
• 2:00-2:30 – Yoga Flow
• 3:00-3:30 – Demonstration of beginner Yoga

TRANSFORMATION STATION
Experience change by painting your face, learning new moves and seeing how AlexRenew transforms dirty water into a clean sparkling beverage. Below are the free martial arts and wellness classes.
• 11 a.m. Martial Arts for Adults
• 12 noon Martial Arts for Youngsters
• 1-4 p.m.:
– Zumba Class
– Demos by One Life Fitness’ Explosive Performance Team
– Basic Health and Nutrition Consultation
– Fitness Assessments

INNOVATION ISLAND
It’s double the fun when the kids get creative and make their own bubbles and bubble wands! Innovation Island will also hold a variety of fun-for-the-whole-family classes.
• 11:30 a.m.– Cardio Sculpting
• 12:15 p.m. – Kids Creative Movement
• 1 p.m. – Pilates with Props
• 1:45 p.m. – Belly Dance
• 2 p.m. – Kids Creative Ballet
• 3:15 p.m. – Family Dance

ENERGY ZONE
Harness your energy and excitement right into a variety of classes and activities brought to you by the City of Alexandria’s Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities Department. While here stop by and see the Washington Nationals and DC United for a free giveaways.
• 11:30 a.m. – Stroller Striders Class
• 12 Noon – Zumba Class
• 1 p.m. – Alexandria Little League
• 1:30 p.m. – TSP (Nerf Fencing) Class
• 2 p.m. – Alexandria Rugby Club
• 2:45 p.m. – Alexandria Lacrosse Club
• 3:15 p.m. – Alexandria’s Soccer Association

If you’re here for the music then we’ve got something for everyone. Here’s the schedule:
• 11:15 a.m. – The Noyze (School of Rock Kids)
• 11:45 a.m. – 4 Short of a Dozen (School Rock of Kids)
• 12:15 p.m. – Guest Speakers
• 1 p.m. – Wes Tucker and the Skillets (Local Roots/Americana/Rock)
• 2 p.m. – Joe Chioocca Band (Local Rock)
• 2:30 p.m. – Purple Isn’t Six (High School Rock Band)
