Fatal Assault During Fight Leads To Murder Charge In Alexandria

Alexandria's sixth homicide of the year was a fatal assault that resulted from a fight earlier this week.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A fight that turned into a fatal assault in Alexandria Monday prompted a murder charge, according to police.

The fight happened around 11:22 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of North Van Dorn Street. Alexandria Police found a victim, who was taken to the hospital. The victim, who has not been publicly identified died two days later.

Police arrested the suspect on the night of the assault. Ricky Dehate, 48, was charged with felonious assault that night, and a second-degree murder charge was added the next day.
