Fire Station To Be Rebuilt In Alexandria's Beverley Hills Area

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Work to rebuild a fire station in the Beverley Hills neighborhood of Alexandria is set to begin in the spring. Fire Station 203 at 2801 Cameron Mills Road will be demolished and replaced with a new facility.

The first step, which is building a temporary facility for the fire station, begins in the spring. The current fire station will be demolished in the summer. Construction of the new fire station is expected to happen and finish in spring 2020. Final site work is set for late summer 2020.

The current fire station was built in 1948 and "is no longer adequate to support modern fire and EMS apparatus, equipment, and operations," states the city's project page. The current 5,910 square-foot fire station's drive-in apparatus bays cannot fit the current fleet of fire trucks, leading some to be parked on the driveway or street. The current station also cannot accommodate the number of staff needed to serve this area, according to previous city staff analysis.

The new 15,000-square-foot facility will support two full-size fire trucks, an ambulance for a medic unit and up to 12 firefighters or emergency personnel.

The temporary fire station will function during construction of the new facility, maintaining normal response times for emergencies.
