Firefighters Battle Blaze At Alexandria High Rise
Smoke spread outside the unit, but firefighters contained the blaze to one unit.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at a 16-floor Alexandria apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.
The fire happened in a fifth floor Southern Towers unit located in the 4900 block of Seminary Road. An open door resulted in heavy smoke spreading, but firefighters were able to contain the fire inside the unit, Fire Chief Robert Dubé reported via Twitter.
After crews worked on smoke conditions and checked for extensions, the fire department said the fire was out as of 2:11 p.m. No injuries were reported.
