Severe Thunderstorm Watch Extended for DC, Northern Virginia: Update

National Weather Service: Radar indicates thunderstorms producing heavy rain Tuesday evening across the region.

The National Weather Service has extended a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of Northern Virginia, plus Washington, D.C., to 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Areas in the watch include: the District of Columbia, Arlington, Alexandria, City of Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning, at 5:51 p.m., for the DC metro area Tuesday night.

Areas impacted include Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax County, until 8:45 p.m.

Radar incidicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the area Tuesday, the weather service reported. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

Some locations that are expected to experience flooding include Arlington, Alexandria, Annandale, Springfield, Fairfax, Fort Hunt, Vienna, Groveton, Falls Church, Huntington, Mantua and Fort Belvoir.

The weather service warns to "turn around...dont' drown when encountering flooded roads.
