ALEXANDRIA, VA — A former City of Alexandria employee has been arrested and charged with felony embezzlement of public property, the city government announced Thursday.
An arrest warrant for Arrian B. Mercer, a former traffic technician for the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services, was obtained in December. Alexandria Police arrested him on Jan. 17 once his location was determined. He was fired from his position on July 31, 2019.
Mercer is accused of stealing over $10,000 worth of traffic signal cable to sell to scrap dealers. Criminal and internal investigations started after the T&ES department notified the city manager's office of suspicious activity.
