Free Summer Meals For Children To Be Offered At Alexandria Schools

ALEXANDRIA, VA — As the summer break starts, children in Alexandria won't go hungry as free breakfast and lunch service will continue at five locations.

Alexandria City Public Schools is again participating in the USDA's Summer Food Service Program. Free meals will be provided to all children under 18 in Alexandria Monday to Thursday from June 26 through July 20, except on July 4.

"We want all families to know about the summer meals program in the City of Alexandria," said Eric Coleman, director of the ACPS Office of School Nutrition Services. "We want to support our children in Alexandria City during the summer months to stay healthy and ensure that students are receiving nutritious meals to be ready to learn in the new school year."

Here are the locations and times for meals from Monday through Thursday:

Alexandria City High School King Street Campus: 3330 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302, Doors 10 and 14

• Breakfast: 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
• Lunch: 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

James K. Polk Elementary School, 5000 Polk Avenue Alexandria, VA 22304, Door 3

• Breakfast: 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
• Lunch: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Mount Vernon Community School, 2601 Commonwealth Avenue Alexandria, VA 22305, Door 1

• Breakfast: 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
• Lunch: 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mt. Vernon Avenue Alexandria, VA 22301, Door 34

• Breakfast: 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
• Lunch: 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School, 1501 Cameron St., Alexandria, VA 22314, Door 8

• Breakfast: 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Lunch: 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
