Geranio Closes In Old Town Alexandria

The Italian restaurant had been open since 1976 in Old Town Alexandria.

Italian staple Geranio Ristorante has closed after 42 years in business, chef and owner Troy Clayton announced in a message to patrons.

“It is with a heavy heart, but a lightness of being, I announce the closure of a 42 year old institution in Old Town Alexandria," reads the email message, Eater DC reported. "My heartfelt thanks to all of our loyal guests in what was a second home to us all."

The restaurant served up Italian foods from prosciutto wrapped mozzarella to gnocchi and other pastas. Lucio and Janey Bergamin founded Geranio in 1976 and handed over ownership to Clayton in 1998.
