Giving Tuesday 2019: Alexandria Charities To Support

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, Giving Tuesday promotes charitable giving during the holiday season.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — You may be thinking about what gifts to buy family and friends in between the Cyber Monday and other holiday deals going on. An alternative gift idea could be donating to a loved one's favorite charitable cause on Giving Tuesday, which falls on Dec. 3 this year.

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 to promote charitable giving during the Christmas season. Last year, approximately $400 million in donations was raised online in the U.S.

Whether you want to support global relief efforts or local causes, there are plenty of causes to support on www.givingtuesday.org. If you cannot make a monetary donation, you can help by volunteering or donating skilled services, helping a donation drive, or paying it forward.
