Hammond Closed Tuesday Due to Ongoing Air-Conditioning Problems

Students who attend Alexandria’s Hammond Middle School are in for another day off. The City sent out this alert Monday night:

Francis C. Hammond Middle School will be closed on Tuesday, June 2, due to air conditioning issues in certain sections of the building. Technicians were working over the weekend and throughout Monday to repair the chiller. Despite their attempts, the chiller will need to be replaced. An emergency chiller unit has been acquired and is scheduled to be installed and running by the end of the day on Tuesday. We anticipate opening school again on Wednesday, June 3, and holding SOL testing as scheduled. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
