Hot temperatures combined with high humidity causes a risk of heat-related illnesses. The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing, staying in air conditioning, checking on relatives and neighbors, not leaving children and pets unattended in cars, and knowing the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
For outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. A person overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In the case of heat stroke, call 911.
