Inmate Death At Alexandria's Jail Under Investigation
The sheriff's office said an inmate died after what appeared to be a medical emergency in the jail Monday morning.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — An in-custody death at the Alexandria jail is under investigation Monday morning, according to the Alexandria Sheriff's Office.
Before 4 a.m., a deputy found the inmate unresponsive and experiencing an apparent medical emergency in his cell. The deputy called for medical staff, and both attempted life-saving measures. The Alexandria Fire Department's medics arrived to continue treatment, but the inmate was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m.
The inmate was identified as Ahntais Lucas, 39, of Fairfax County, who has been in custody since Aug. 20, 2023.

Alexandria Police Department are investigating the in-custody death investigation, while the Sheriff’s Office will conduct a review to ensure its policies and procedures were followed.
