An American ISIS defector captured in March, a graduate of Edison High School in Fairfax County, is hoping to avoid prison time by discouraging others from joining the group.

Woman Killed, Run Over by Own Car in Driveway Accident: Police
A 68-year-old woman was found pinned under a vehicle in her driveway in the 4200 block of Sleepy Hollow Road on Wednesday shortly after 4 p.m., Fairfax County Police announced Thursday.
Officers responded to the scene along with fire and rescue personnel. The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later. Detectives say the victim apparently slipped under the vehicle after accidentally placing it in gear, according to police. »»»Read more.

Suspect Arrested in Groping of Child at Target: Police
A suspect has been arrested in the groping of a child Saturday at the Target store in the Mosaic District in Merrifield, Fairfax County Police announced Thursday.
Detectives received an anonymous tip identifying Brendon Jennings Cordova, 19, of Vienna, as the suspect in the assault that occurred at the Target store on Saturday, June 18. »»»Read more.
- Fairfax County Police say a man attempted to rob a local business Wednesday afternoon in the 6300 block of Castle Place. His description might make him easy to spot: he was wearing a plaid, golfer’s-style hat.
Possibly Rabid Raccoon Spotted in Falls Church
- Since Wednesday, a potentially rabid raccoon has had a number of encounters with people and dogs, according to the City of Falls Church. The city says one person was scratched and two dogs fought with the aggressive animal.
DC Mayor, Police Chief Beg Congress to Act on Gun Laws
- Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser, Police Chief Cathy Lanier and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) pleaded Thursday for "common sense gun reform" — displaying an ominous collection of guns to prove their point. The pleas come in the wake of the deadly attack on Pulse Nightclub in Orlando earlier this month. Still, Democrats have not been able to make any progress on new gun laws, getting blocked by Republicans at every turn.
