Israeli Flag In Alexandria Polling Place Draws Apology: Report
After a complaint about an Israeli flag above a voting machine, Alexandria's registrar noted it was not meant to be a political statement.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — After a complaint about an Israeli flag next to a voting machine at an Alexandria precinct, Alexandria's registrar has offered an apology.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations had filed a complaint to the Alexandria registrar about the Israeli flag at the Beth El Hebrew Congregation polling place, which is a Jewish synagogue. A voter had spotted the flag above a voting machine and believed it was intentionally placed, given there were no other flags in the room. According to CAIR, a voting official said the voter's complaint would be investigated.
As ALX Now first reported, Alexandria's registrar Angela Maniglia-Turner said there was no intent to send a political or religious message with the flag but apologized if voters were uncomfortable. There have been more than 30,000 Palestinian deaths reported amid Israel's attack on Gaza after an original attack by Hamas on Israel killing 1,200.
