ALEXANDRIA, VA — Kidcreate Studio, an art studio for kids, will open a location in Old Town Alexandria.

The franchise, originally based out of Minneapolis, focuses on art programs for kids of different age groups. Founder Lara Olson started Kidcreate Studio to fill in gaps of art education for her young son.

Alexandria's location will be run by another mom with a young child. Diane Greenbaum, a mom who lives south of the city in Fairfax County with a 3-year-old son, is securing a location for Kidcreate Studio.

"I know a lot of moms like me. We want our kids to have value-added experiences," she told Patch. "We don't just want them to be test-ready."

Programs at Kidcreate Studio range from weekly classes to summer camps and themed events. Greenbaum envisions putting together sessions for kids while parents have a night out, or snow day sessions when schools are closed. Programs are open to kids 18 months to 12 years old, but parents must be present if their kids are under 3.

The opening date and address have not been announced, as Greenbaum is in the process of finalizing a lease. The location will allow Greenbaum to be close to her son, who will attend preschool nearby.

After the Alexandria location opens, Kidcreate Studio will explore opening other locations in the DC area.
