Killing Of Alexandria Man In DC Leads To Arrest

Police in DC have made an arrest for two homicides, including one with a victim from Alexandria.

WASHINGTON, DC — Two DC homicides in 2020 and 2021, one of which had an Alexandria victim, have led to a suspect's arrest.

Metropolitan Police arrested and charged Michael Sanders, 29, of Northwest, DC on Thursday. He faces two charges of first-degree murder while armed.

The first charge relates to the Feb. 18, 2021 killing of Youness Zarouaki, 30, of Alexandria. Police had responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of Thomas Jefferson Street NW and found a man with a gunshot wound. Zarouaki was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The other charge is related to the July 16, 2020 killing of Kenneth Brown, 34, of Southeast, DC. Police had responded to the 400 block of 33rd Street SE for a shooting and found a victim with a gunshot wound inside a residential building. The victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The arrest of Sanders came after a DC Superior Court arrest warrant was issued.
