Magnolia's on King Eyes July Opening: Report

Veteran of Wolfgang Puck Restaurants will serve as chef of Southern restaurant and lounge, says Eater DC. Decor is Charleston-influenced.

Magnolia’s on King, which will be serving up Southern dishes at 703 King St., is reportedly opening in July, according to a report by Eater DC.

Brian Rowe, a veteran of Wolfgang Puck Restaurants, will serve as chef, the foodie site says. Rowe is a native of Annapolis, according to a recent interview with restauranteur Steve Fogelman.

Washingtonian reports the opening date for Magnolia’s on King as July 1.

Wondering what’s on the menu? Fogelman gave a preview to Washingtonian:

“Guests in the 30-seat dining room can pick between dishes like oyster po’ boy sliders, molasses pork belly with chipotle grits, and buttermilk-fried chicken that’s been brined in sweet tea. Pastry chef Hans Fogelman, formerly of BLT Steak, follows suit with riffs on classic desserts such as s’mores bread pudding. Brunch will begin opening week with options like beignets and crab cake Benedicts.”

A recent ad seeking applicants for job openings notes that the restaurant will open for dinner and brunch only, initially, and will be closed on Sunday evenings and Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Interviews for front-of-house positions continue Wednesday, June 10, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 2-4 p.m., according to this craigslist ad:

“We are looking for experienced Servers, Hosts, and Server Assistants that are passionate about exceptional hospitality and dedicated to knowing the ins and outs of food and beverage. We are committed to a team supportive environment and know that each individual will excel when the team excels.

Requirements & Responsibilities
Servers must have the following: A warm and welcoming personality, at least 1 year experience as a server, the ability to listen and respond to demanding guests needs, the ability to lead and exude interpersonal and communication skills, be committed to delivering high levels of customer service and must have basic knowledge of food, wine, and spirits. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Servers will be responsible for greeting guests warmly, taking orders, frequent table maintenance, wine presentations, etc.

Hosts must have the following: Working knowledge of the hospitality industry, must have great customer service skills, has a warm and welcoming personality, must have a passion for delivering exceptional customer service. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Hosts will be responsible for greeting all guests warmly, seating guests, answering the telephone, taking to-go orders, etc.

Server Assistants must have the following: Working knowledge of the hospitality industry, must have great customer service skills, has a warm and welcoming personality, must be able to lift up to 50lbs. The server assistant will be responsible for assisting all servers in running food, clearing tables, polishing silverware, etc.

There will be approximately 5 days of mandatory training for all Front of House staff. There will be set schedules, hourly rates plus tips for certain positions, and opportunities for advancement. Training begins June 15th.
