Man, 60, Dies In Custody Of Alexandria Sheriff's Office

A 60-year-old man who was in custody of the Alexandria Sheriff's Office died early Monday, according to authorities.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A 60-year-old Alexandria man who was in the custody of the Alexandria Sheriff's Office died at Inova Fairfax Hospital early Monday morning, according to authorities.

Ricardo Roberts was being treated for chronic medical issues and had been in medical care since Dec. 31, according to the incident report. He first received treatment at Inova Alexandria Hospital, but he was then taken at Inova Fairfax Hospital on Monday and at 5:09 a.m.

Roberts was being held without bond by the sheriff's office on 20 counts of violating a protective order in connection to a series of incidents stretching back to Aug. 8, 2025, according to court records. He had a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 11 in Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Since Roberts' death occurred while he was in custody, Alexandria police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an investigation into the his death, as required by law.
