ALEXANDRIA, VA—As the trial begins for the killing inside an Old Town Alexandria business last July, defense lawyers for Pankaj Bhasin are pointing to mental illness as a factor in the killing. Even further, they claim the defendant thought Bradford Jackson was a werewolf when he killed him inside the Window Universe Store on King Street.

NBC Washington reported defense lawyers saying Bhasin may have been affected by mental illness weeks before the killing. The defense claims there was no motive in the killing and will ask the jury to find Bhasin not guilty by reason of insanity. Friends of Jackson refuted the defense's claim in separate interviews with NBC Washington.
