Man Arrested, Accused Of Stealing Girlfriend's Rental Car In Alexandria In 2020: Report

A man has been arrested and charged with theft after his ex-girlfriend accused him of stealing a car she'd rented from DCA.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – A Manassas man accused of stealing his girlfriend’s rental car more than six years ago has been arrested and charged with felony theft, according to a report.

ALX Now reports that the man’s girlfriend at the time reported that he stole her rental car from an Alexandria hotel in July 2020. According to the report, the victim, a Canadian citizen, told Alexandria police that she’d flown from Canada to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to meet her boyfriend. She’d rented a red 2020 Toyota Corolla with Michigan plates, which she and her boyfriend used to drive to his mother’s house and then to her hotel on the 6200 block of Duke Street, where they went to sleep. When she woke up a short while later, her boyfriend and the car were gone.

Citing a recently unsealed search warrant, ALX Now reports that the man stopped responding to his then-girlfriend’s texts and never returned the car, though she went looking for him. She reportedly told authorities she would return to the U.S. to appear in court.
