Maryland's MARC Train Extension To Alexandria Explored
Maryland is looking into future goals for the MARC commuter train, including a potential expansion to Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Commuting between Maryland and Virginia could get easier under an extension being explored by Maryland's MARC train.
MARC, a commuter train connecting the Maryland suburbs with Baltimore and Washington, DC, is planning for future goals. One of those is a future extension of the commuter rail to Alexandria.
Currently, one MARC line runs into West Virginia, but there is no MARC service into Virginia. Earlier this year, Maryland Matters reported an agreement between Maryland, Virginia and Delaware to possibly extend MARC into those latter two states. The Long Bridge project being planned between DC and Virginia to boost rail capacity.

A new survey by the Maryland Transit Administration seeks feedback on what priorities MARC should focus on, including potential new extensions into Virginia, Delaware and West Virginia. Another round of public outreach will be expected in fall 2024 on MARC's future objectives and what capital investments are needed.
The survey is open up to Dec. 4.
