MGM National Harbor's $1.3 Billion Resort on Track for Fourth Quarter Opening

City of Alexandria businesses hope to see a positive impact when MGM National Harbor resort opens later this year across the river in MD.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Just across the river, MGM National Harbor, the $1.3 billion, 23-acre resort casino under development in Prince George’s County, Md., recently held a “topping off” ceremony. The event celebrated reaching the resort’s highest point of construction, with the placement of the final concrete layer atop the 24-story hotel tower.

MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) also recently announced that MGM National Harbor, LLC, has entered into a $525 million agreement to further fund the development and construction of MGM National Harbor.

“This financing, along with the capital contributions from MGM Resorts and our local investors, supports our vision of bringing a world-class entertainment destination to Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland,” said Lorenzo Creighton, president and Chief Operating Officer of MGM National Harbor, in a news release.

Here’s a look at the casino resort, by the numbers:

  • Casino size: 125,000 square feet
  • Slot machines: 3,600
  • Table games: 140
  • Hotel rooms: 234
  • Suites: 74
  • Retail space: 12,000 square feet
  • Restaurants: 12
  • Executive chefs: 3
  • Jobs when completed: 3,600 (about 80 percent full-time)
  • Construction workers on site: More than 1,000
  • Average annual wage: $60,000
  • Parking spaces: 5,000

When the resort opens, the dozen restaurants will include eateries by bold-name chefs Marcus Samuelson, Jose Andres and Voltaggio Brothers. (See MGM National Harbor Unveils Celebrity Chef Lineup)

JLL recently announced it is handling the leasing of the 12,000 square feet of retail space. Retail Senior Vice President Greg Ferrante and Retail Vice President Andy Corno are leading the JLL team.
