National Harbor Welcomes 10 New Restaurants and Retailers to DC Waterfront Destination
National Harbor is just across the Potomac River from Alexandria.

If you haven’t zipped over to National Harbor, lately, there are new shops and restaurants to explore: five additional retailers and eateries have now signed to open new locations this year.

“The addition of these 10 businesses showcases National Harbor as a premiere international waterfront destination,” said Kent Digby, Senior Vice President of NationalHarbor. “We’re excited to welcome them to our community, and to offer these services and experiences to our guests, residents, and employees.”

The 10 new retailers and restaurants now opened at, or coming to, National Harbor include:
- Granite City: Granite City Food & Brewery’s first East Coast location opened this month in the street-level retail space of the luxury apartment building, The Esplanade, featuring seating for 300 people, an open kitchen, large patio, private dining, and an on-site microbrewery (open for tours).
- Betty: The high-end consignment boutique offers new and pre-owned designer clothing and accessories for men, women, and children. Shoppers can find labels such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Prada, and Salvatore Ferragamo in this space located on American Way.
- SUCCOTASH: Opening in July: Renowned chef, Edward Lee, will be the culinary director for southern-inspired restaurant, SUCCOTASH. SUCCOTASH will be located steps from the Gaylord, the region’s largest convention center. The 200 seat restaurant will feature a main dining room and bar, flexible private dining space, and an outdoor fire-lit patio. The space will evoke an airy Southern charm with urban flair.
- Chipotle Mexican Grill: The popular burrito chain will be located on National Plaza, next to the Marina office. The restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor seating for approximately 53 people. Chipotle fans staying at National Harbor will no longer have to travel far for their burrito fix.
- Starbucks: The world’s premier roaster and retailer of specialty coffee, is gearing up to open its newest location at National Harbor. The coffeehouse will open a 29-seat cafe (including outdoor seating) next to the Westin Hotel. Now visitors traveling near and far can enjoy a variety of amazing coffees and teas from around the world and pastries and sandwiches made with high-quality, simple ingredients.
- Savannah’s Candy Kitchen: The largest candy company in the Southeast, Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, known for its fresh made sweets and southern favorites will open its first Northeast location at National Harbor on American Way. The new space will be filled to the brim with Savannah Georgia’s best candies, cakes and confections.
- Marbles |The Brain Store: Expanding its one-of-a-kind specialty store to National Harbor, Marbles will be a fun and interactive environment where customers can interact with a smart collection of hand-picked games, puzzles, and books to find the right “brainy” products.
- The Esplanade: The Bozzuto project features 262 units ranging from studios to three-bedrooms, and encompasses roughly 486,000 SF, including garage parking and street-level retail space. The Esplanade is located at 250 American Way.
- AC Hotel by Marriott: Marriott debuted a new boutique brand, AC Hotel, atNational Harbor this month. AC Hotels was first launched in Europe, and is a part of the company’s luxury and lifestyle brands portfolio. It’s the brand’s third location in the U.S. and the first one on the east coast. The eight-story boutique hotel has 192 guest rooms, 3,700 SF of meeting space, outdoor terraces with views of the Potomac, and a number of sophisticated amenities.
National Harbor is also excited to welcome back Boating in DC and Pinkberry
- Boating in D.C.: Offers kayaking and peddle boat rentals and is also known for its unusual watersports classes and lessons, including SUP Fitness and SUP Yoga.
- Pinkberry: The original tart frozen yogurt brand, reopened under new ownership this month on Waterfront Plaza Drive at National Harbor, just in time for guests to enjoy their favorite frozen treats on the plaza.
The 350-acre community at National Harbor boasts 3,000 hotel rooms including the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, 150 stores including Tanger Outlets, and 30+ restaurants, hundreds of residential and office units, tree-lined promenades, and a marina. It is also home to The Capital Wheel, a 180-foot observation wheel overlooking the Washington, DC skyline. Additionally, in 2016 MGM Resorts International will open a $925 million casino complex on 23 acres with a 300-suite hotel.
