ALEXANDRIA, VA — A new shop offering made-from-scratch cookies is preparing to open in Old Town Alexandria.

MidnighTreats, a Northern Virginia-based business, will open its third location Friday at 110 South Payne St., Alexandria, VA. Customers who visit on Friday during opening hours from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. will get a free chocolate chip cookie.

The cookie shop specializes in one-third pound cookies made with plant-based ingredients. The business seeks to increase a favorable view of vegan cookies over ones made with animal ingredients. Co-owner Johnny Nguyen, who grew up in Vienna, started MidnighTreats in 2018 in his family's kitchen. In 2022, MidnighTreats launched brick-and-mortar locations in Reston and Vienna.

According to the MidnighTreats website, cookies "have a nice crisp outside with a chewy (but not raw) inside." Cookies are available for takeout, and nationwide shipping is another option.

The new Alexandria location was formerly home to Fleurir Chocolates, which ALX Now reported closed late last year.
