New Grocer To Emphasize Sustainable Shopping In Alexandria
The store will ask shoppers to bring their own bags and jars and is aiming to open in the spring.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Mason & Greens, a dry goods and grocer promoting waste-free shopping, is preparing to open in Alexandria spring 2020. An exact opening date has not been announced for the store.
The store is opening at 913 King Street in Old Town, ALX Now first reported.
The Mason & Greens website outlines its objective of encouraging more sustainable consumer habits. Shoppers will need to bring their own reusable shopping bags, bulk food bags and jars. If you forget these items, the store plans to sell reusable organic cotton bags and have jars available.

"Knowing that your buying power is going to support companies who care about reducing waste we can start to combat the frivolous throw away culture that has crept in all around us," the Mason & Greens website says.
Mason & Greens will operate cash-free. Customers will need to weigh their empty containers and jars at the store before filling them. This will ensure the weight of the containers or jars doesn't factor into the cost of the products.
