ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria has a new message of love for residents and visitors with the latest waterfront art installation. The "I Love You" art installation opened Friday morning at Waterfront Park, 1A Prince Street.

The art installation comes from architects Roberto Behar and Rosario Marquardt, the husband and wife duo behind R&R Studios. Their art has appeared in places like Miami; Denver; Copenhagen, Denmark; Brussels, Belgium; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Their Alexandria art installation features the words "I Love You" in pink neon lights paired with a ground mural of a pink and white carpet. With the Potomac River in the backdrop, the installation is ideal for photo opps.

Behar and Marquardt shared the inspiration behind the art installation on Visit Alexandria's website.

"We love the unexpected encounters that street life and open-air public spaces have to offer," the artists shared. "Familiar places have a poetic dimension that we try to capture and transform into surprising and memorable events through our art."

The artists called Alexandria "one of the most beautiful and open cities in America." They hope their project shows how art can boost a destination.

R&R Studios was selected to create the artwork in Alexandria by a community task force with approval from the Alexandria Commission for the Arts. Past public art installations in Waterfront Park have included Mark Reigelman's "Groundswell" in 2021, Olalekan Jeyifous' "Wrought, Knit, Labors, Legacies" in 2020 and SOFTlab's "Mirror Mirror" in 2019.

Hours for the art installation are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
