New Year's Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Alexandria
While most services won't be open New Year's Day, a few will remain closed the following day.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Families will get another (or continued) break from work or school to ring in 2018, and many services will remain closed through the holiday weekend.
City of Alexandria offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. Similar to Christmas, services with the exception of some public transit will not run on New Year's Day. In addition, public transportation, the animal shelter and other services will run on different schedules on New Year's Eve. Services will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2 unless noted.

City Offices: Closed Monday, Jan. 1.

Schools and Administrative Offices: Closed through Jan. 2.
State Offices: The Alexandria Circuit Court Clerk's Office, the Alexandria Circuit Court, the Alexandria General District Court and the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (520 King St.) will close at noon on Jan. 1-2. The Department of Motor Vehicles office at 2681 Mill Rd. will be closed Jan. 1-2.
Animal Shelter: Open for adoptions from noon to 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1. The shelter will be open on Jan. 2 from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. with animal visitation beginning at noon.
DASH and King Street Trolley: No DASH service on New Year's Day. The free King Street Trolley will operate on its normal schedule both days, every 10 to 15 minutes, between the King Street Metro Station and the Potomac River waterfront, from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. See www.dashbus.com for more information.
Emergency hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the emergency services for mental health or substance abuse crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the adult protective services hotline at 703-746-5778; and the sexual assault hotline at 703-683-7273.
Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.) and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 22, and reopen Wednesday, Dec. 27. The Teen Wellness Center at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) will be closed Jan. 1.

Libraries: Closed Jan. 1.
Metrorail: Open New Year's Day from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on a Sunday schedule with off-peak fares in effect and free parking at Metro-operated lots and garages. Open New Year's Eve from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. on a Sunday schedule.

Parking: Police will suspect parking enforcement on New Year's Day at metered spaces, residential permit parking districts and other areas with posted parking time limits. It does not apply to permit parking in any location normally prohibited (parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities). Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.
Recreation and Arts Centers: Closed on New Year's Day.
Trash Pickup: Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day the week of Jan. 1. Collections will not happen Jan. 1. The Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collections Drop-off Center will be closed Christmas Day.
