New Year's Eve Road Closures Begin at 10 PM in Old Town

Police will close off some streets for crowds gathered to see midnight fireworks.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Starting at 10 p.m. Thursday, the Alexandria Police Department will be closing the following roads for New Year’s Eve festivities/crowds:

  • King Street, from the river to Fairfax Street
  • The Strand, north of Prince Street
  • 200 S. Union to 100 N. Union streets
  • 100 S. Lee to 100 N. Lee streets
  • 100 block of Cameron Street

Roads are expected to be completely reopened by 1:30 a.m. Police will begin reopening after the fireworks as crowds dissipate.

The fireworks show will be on the Potomac River at the end of King Street. Best viewing is anywhere along the waterfront. You can also get a great view from the top of the steps of the George Washington Masonic Memorial. The fireworks begin at the stroke of midnight and last about eight minutes.
