Old Town Alexandria Under Freezing Rain Advisory

Drivers in Northern Virginia should be extra careful Monday, as the National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory, which is in effect until 6 p.m.

A freezing rain advisory means that periods of freezing rain may cause travel difficulties, according to the National Weather Service, which advises that roads may be slippery and drivers should slow down.

The freezing rain is projected to start sometime between 9 and 11 a.m. and continue falling throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service. The precipitation will likely to turn to all rain by 2 p.m., the forecast notes.

The entire Northern Virginia region is included in the advisory.

The high in Northern Virginia on Monday is forecast to be in the mid to upper 30s, according to the weather service.
