Old Town Theater: Yates Purchase Deal Off the Table...For Now
Alexandria City Council members OK'd addition of space to create floor on second story.

It appears, for now, that the talked-about sale of the Old Town Theater, outlined in planning documents with the City, is no longer.
Alexandria businessman Jeffrey Yates has decided not to purchase the Old Town Theater, according to theater owner Robert J. Kaufman. Yates had outlined an ambitious plan to revive the landmark and bring entertainment to the theater, in papers filed with the City.
“For the moment, it’s not happening,” he said Tuesday morning, about the deal for Yates to purchase the theater. “Whether it comes back together, I’ll know that soon. There are some issues.”

Kaufman, for the time being, is moving ahead with plans, hoping to sell the property to someone who will keep it going as a theater or secondly, looking to lease the property to a retailer or retailers.
