Outdoor Dining: 30+ Old Town Alexandria Restaurants To Check Out

Warm weather is here, and there's no better time for al fresco dining at Alexandria's various restaurants.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Warm weather is returning to our area, and Alexandria is arguably one of the better places to dine outdoors.

The city has a variety of outdoor dining spaces, from rooftop patios and private courtyards to street dining on the pedestrian-only block of King Street.

100 block of King Street: There are plentiful choices for outdoor dining on this car-free block of lower King Street. Try Italian favorites at Landini Brothers, Il Porto or Mia's Italian Kitchen, enjoy seafood at Fish Market or The Wharf, dine on the second floor patio at Daniel O’Connell’s, pair tacos with a margarita at Urbano 116, or feast on Detroit-style pizza at Emmy Squared Pizza.

Robinson Landing/The Strand: This waterfront area south of King Street is growing with the emergence of the Robinson Landing development and two restaurants. Enjoy waterfront views with your steak or seafood at Ada's on the River, a restaurant named after 19th century mathematician Ada Lovelace. You can't get any closer to the Potomac River than BARCA Pier & Wine Bar, which offers Spanish tapas other food and drinks on a pier. Other nearby highlights are new outdoor seating at Chadwicks, Virtue Feed & Grain with pub food and drinks in Wales Alley, Union Street Public House with patio and rooftop dining, and Chef Cathal Armstrong and Meshelle Armstrong's Hummingbird.

Waterfront dining at the City Marina: Enjoy dining in the heart of the Alexandria waterfront where boats dock at the city marina. Chart House offers river views inside and outside with its seafood and steak, while Blackwall Hitch lets you feast on seafood outdoors with dockside or river views. Vola's Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge is another favorite with seating adjacent to the Potomac River.

Old Town North: As development grows in Old Town North, so does the restaurant scene. TJ Stone's is a neighborhood favorite serving American cuisine at its outdoor patio. Cafe 44 offers an impressive patio along the waterfront. Hank's Oyster Bar recently reopened in a new location with rooftop seating.

King Street: You don't need to be on the waterfront to have impressive outdoor dining. Sonoma Cellar has a charming private courtyard to enjoy wine and bites, while King & Rye’s latest courtyard concept Cocktail Garden opens April 21. Less than a block from King Street, Fontaine Bistro is a local favorite for crêpes. On Upper King Street, Augie’s has an expansive beer garden on Upper King Street, Taverna Cretekou has a courtyard to serve its Greek food, and other favorites on the block are Vaso’s Mediterranean Grill and Cuates Grill.

Old Town West: West of Washington Street, enjoy a taste of France on the patio at Bastille. For American cuisine and drinks, head to Mason Social's outdoor patio. Last but not least, dine at the tropical-themed Lena's Oasis in a tent or the classic Lena's beer garden.

South of King Street: Near Alexandria's southern border, Italian restaurant Faccia Luna serves pizzas and pastas on its patio, and Southside 815 offers Southern favorites and weekend brunch on an outdoor patio.
