Paint Spill In Water Reported Near Alexandria's Monticello Park

The spill was discovered after the city received a report of an unknown, cloudy substance in the water near Old Dominion Boulevard.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria authorities are investigating a paint spill in a waterway near Monticello Park, the city said Saturday.

According to a news release, the Alexandria Fire Department received a report Saturday morning of an unknown, cloudy substance in the water near Old Dominion Boulevard. Officials said the substance was visible from a nearby walking trail.

An investigation determined the substance came from a storm drain at the intersection of Crestwood Drive and Old Dominion Boulevard, city officials said. A test later revealed the substance to be latex paint primer.

After canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and additional information, authorities determined the spill was accidental, officials said.

According to officials, the city's water supply was not impacted by the spill.
