PBS Series 'Mercy Street' Based on Civil War-Era Alexandria Debuts Jan. 17

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- It won’t be long before the debut of “Mercy Street,” the PBS series based on life in Alexandria during the Civil War.

The series storyline was inspired by true stories of Civil War Alexandria and the Mansion House Hotel, which was transformed into a Union Army Hospital. The program premieres Sunday, Jan. 17.

Get ready for the Mercy Street premiere! George Combs, manager of Alexandria Library’s Special Collections Branch, author Michael Lee Pope, and Callie Stapp of The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will introduce you to the history behind the PBS series.
