Alexandria, VA (August 19, 2014) – The finest artists in the country will color historic King Street with vibrant booths on September 13th and 14th for the city’s premier art gathering, the King Street Art Festival. Ranked 17th in the United States by Sunshine Artist, the nation’s leading publication for art and craft shows, this highly-anticipated event features a wide array of original handcrafted art across a number of mediums. Along the waterfront at the world famous Torpedo Factory Art Center, visitors can participate in special interactive art activities and peruse 82 working artists’ studios. Located in beautiful Old Town, the King Street Art Festival is produced by national festival promoter Howard Alan Events and hosted by the City of Alexandria. Admission is free and open to the public.
Festival patrons and art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to explore the work of more than 200 leading local and national artists, take part in interactive art activities, enjoy live music and register to win a free art giveaway featuring the work of participating artist Patrick Reynolds. The prize, an original painting titled “Sagesse” valued at $2,800, will be on display at his booth for the duration of the art show, where registration will also take place. No purchase is necessary to participate.
Participating artists are selected from amongst hundreds of applicants by an expert panel of judges to ensure a superior event featuring diverse art media and the highest quality of original handmade art. Artistic media includes paintings, life-size sculptures, photography, glass, wood, jewelry, collage and ceramics and prices range from $25 hand-designed earrings to $50,000 metal sculptures.
A variety of interactive activities will be offered throughout the weekend, including The Art League’s popular Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser. Patrons can purchase one of 1,000 hand-made bowls created by the talented artists of The Art League’s ceramics department and enjoy local artisanal ice cream from Artfully Chocolate in Carlyle, all for only $15 per bowl, the proceeds of which benefit The Art League. Participants in the Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser may enter a free drawing to win ceramic artwork and an Art League gift certificate. In addition, The Art League will continue celebrating its 60th anniversary with the continuation of the Community Canvas Project, a growing installation of 600 plus large, black and white puzzle pieces to be unveiled at the Madison Annex during Artfête on December 5, 2014.
Festival Patrons are invited to visit THE LINCOLN MOTOR COMPANY display during the festival to experience the Active Park Assist feature on the first-ever MKC. Participants will receive complimentary gift cards for art purchases. Also, each day, at the Lincoln Motor Company vehicle display, one lucky participant will have the chance to win a limited edition “Hello” Cheryl Summers art piece.
