Power Outages Hit Part Of Alexandria As Temperature Drops

While a rapid freeze is happening Friday, power outages were reported in part of Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Part of Alexandria is experiencing power outages as a rapid freeze will cause temperatures to significantly fall Friday.

According to Dominion Energy's outage map, over 1,500 outages were active after 12 p.m. Friday. Outages were concentrated between King and Duke Streets in the Taylor Run and Seminary Hill areas.

The outages come as temperatures drop throughout the day. By 5 p.m., the temperature is expected to reach 19, according to the National Weather Service. A low of 9 is expected overnight. Breezy conditions will continue with 20 to 22 mph winds and gusts as high as 40 mph.

Alexandria is under a wind chill advisory from 7 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday. Overnight, wind chills as low as 10 degrees below 0 are expected by the National Weather Service.
