Citing Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille’s record of service, accomplishments and “the right focus on the future,” former Alexandria Mayor Kerry Donley Sunday threw his support and endorsement to Euille and the write-in campaign for the post he now holds, according to a news release from the Euille campaign.

Both mayors entered the June primary — as did Vice Mayor Allison Silberberg — with the two mayors running on what they call “a reasonable growth message” while Silberberg ran on what Euille and Donley are calling “a slowdown approach of local development,” the campaign noted in the news release.
Euille and Donley point out that they tallied 8,499 votes, 62 percent of the votes cast.

“I have served with him and know his commitment to Alexandria,” Donley said. ”Just look at how he led us in weathering the economic storm of the last decade. Bill Euille has the best experience and understanding of how to lead the City as we confront the challenges for the future.”
Donley pointed to major employers coming to Alexandria such as the National Science Foundation and the recent announcement of the National Security Administration moving to the West End, adding that Euille has been carefully setting the stage for the city’s continued successful future.
“The challenges in front of us are many: Financing the public services we both expect and deserve, ensuring we have responsive and responsible public safety (police and fire), continuing to build good schools, growing mass transit and creating eco-friendly infrastructure... these are the kinds of challenges Bill Euille has successfully tackled in tougher times,” Donley said. “He should be the one to lead Alexandria now as we become a model for cities everywhere and I am happy to support him in his effort to continue to lead our City.”
