ALEXANDRIA, VA — Noise from airplanes flying over ahead is a part of everyday life in Alexandria, especially near the Potomac River. The City of Alexandria is collecting feedback as part of a study into noise concerns from Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
In May 2023, Alexandria started a two-year South of Airport Noise Study with Fairfax County and Prince George’s County and led by Vianair Consulting. According to the study website, noise from airplanes has been an increasing concern for nearby communities since jet service was introduced in the 1960s. As operations at the airport have grown, greater noise impacts have followed. An airport noise study north of National Airport was done in 2020.
