ALEXANDRIA, VA—City staff presented a recommendation for Seminary Road improvements at a community meeting on May 30 at St. Stephens & St. Agnes Upper School.

The project focuses on roadway improvements for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists on Seminary Road from Quaker Lane to North Howard Streets. The staff recommendation for lane reconfiguration does not apply to the area west of North Howard Streets, but other improvements are being considered for this area.

The recommendation is a combination of two alternative options. This includes shared lane markings for vehicles and bicycles in the curbside lanes, improved signal operation, narrowed lanes intended to reduce crashes, a single eastbound lane in one section, and upgraded crosswalks, signage and median islands for pedestrians.

The single eastbound lane would be between St. Stephens Road and Zabriskie Drive while the westbound direction would have two lanes. Two lanes in each direction are recommended between North Howard Street and St. Stephens Road, as well as between Zabriskie Drive and North Quaker Lane.
