Saturday Cinema To Kick Off In Alexandria

Already looking ahead to next weekend? There's a monthly outdoor film festival coming to Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — There's no time like the summer for catching a movie under the stars. There's plentiful options for outdoor movies in the DC area, but now there's another new option inside Alexandria.

The Saturday Cinema at Carlyle is an outdoor film festival debuting Saturday, July 1 at John Carlyle Square Park (300 John Carlyle Street). Hosted by the Carlyle Community Council, the free event will occur monthly from July to October.

Alexandria's Nice Cream, which opened in April on King Street, will be on site on July 1 serving up their specialty ice cream made from local ingredients and liquid nitrogen. The Popped! Republic food truck will also be selling popcorn.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and food. The event happens rain or shine, except in cases of severe weather.

Movies start at approximately sunset. The movie schedule is as follows:

July 1: Top Gun, estimated start time 8:37 p.m.

August 5: Caddyshack, estimated start time 8:14 p.m.

Sept. 2: When Harry Met Sally, estimated start time 7:36 p.m.

Oct. 7: The Birds, estimated start time 6:41 p.m.

The Carlyle area is accessible by Metro just south of the King Street Station.
