Severe Traffic Delays Continue After Fire On WW Bridge
Traffic is heavy throughout the region as the outer loop of the Beltway remains closed on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Major traffic delays are continuing after a multi-car fire on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge left one person dead earlier in the day.
The outer loop of I-495 across Wilson Bridge remains closed this evening, resulting in delays throughout the region for vehicular traffic and major bus routes. Alexandria officials urge residents to use Metrorail if possible and avoid buses and cars through the evening.
Traffic is open on local lanes of the outer loop only. The inner loop is open. Meanwhile, traffic reports indicate traffic is backed up about 12 miles to the Fairfax County Parkway exit on I-95.

Investigations and cleanups continue on scene. Officials believe a tractor trailer lost control and struck construction vehicles working on the bridge, leading to multiple cars catching fire, Maryland State Police said. Heavy smoke billowed from the crash and closed the inner loop after the crash, but the lanes have since reopened, according to WTOP.

The traffic is absolutely terrible tonight in many spots. You might want to consider taking metro or not hitting the highways unless you have to. @ABC7News pic.twitter.com/JC0kgYhyJB

With the thru lane closure of the Outer loop at the Wilson Bridge, we're seeing A LOT of extra volume on I-295 South, I-395 North, Duke St (in & out of Alexandria), EB 7/King St and 1S (into Alexandria). #DCTraffic #VATraffic #MDTraffic

Everything is actually an issue right now. The fallout from that accident is huge and has impacted traffic in DC, too. My commute was absolutely nightmarish tonight and I don’t go near the Wilson Bridge.
