Sex Crimes Against Minor In MD Lead To Sentence For Alexandria Man

An Alexandria man was sentenced to prison in Anne Arundel County court on charges of rape and sex abuse of a minor.

ANNE ARUNDEL, MD — An Alexandria man was sentenced in Anne Arundel County Court to 36 years in prison in relation to sex crimes against a minor.

Hector Rojo, 27, of Alexandria, had been convicted by a jury on June 17. He was found guilty of count of sex abuse of a minor, two counts of second degree rape and lesser charges.

A relative of the minor victim had reported the assault in October 2020 to Anne Arundel County police and Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services. During an interview, the victim told authorities Rojo moved into the victim's home and began sexually abusing the victim. The victim said it started with Rojo touching her breasts and buttocks and progressed to rape, according to prosecutors. The victim had been experiencing the abuse for almost two years.

The sentencing was announced Wednesday by Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess. The prosecutor said children should be encouraged to tell a trusted adult to protect them from abuse.

"Reporting abuse is never easy and is even more confusing to a child when the perpetrator is someone they know," said Leitess in a statement. "It’s because of the bravery of this child, first in telling her parents, and then later by testifying in court, that this defendant will be serving a lengthy prison sentence."
