Sheriff's Office: Alexandria Woman, 'Tased' in Custody, Dies Sunday

Natasha McKenna passed away Sunday after she was removed from life support, according to Fairfax County Sheriff's Office.

A 37-year old Alexandria-area woman who suffered a medical emergency Tuesday after being ”tased” by Fairfax County Sheriff’s deputies while in custody, died Sunday after being taken off life support, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s office has identified the woman as Natasha McKenna.

McKenna was tased Tuesday while officers were preparing her to be transferred to the Alexandria jail; the Sheriff’s Office said she was not cooperating prior to the transfer.

Sheriff’s Office policy dictates that this incident is now classified as an in-custody inmate death, according to the news release.

Therefore, the Fairfax County Police Department has been notified, and an investigation is underway. Sheriff’s Office personnel are fully cooperating with the investigation, according to the news release.

Sheriff Stacey A. Kincaid stated: “We anticipate a prompt and comprehensive investigation and will continue to update our website as new information becomes available.”
