Shooting Attempt Of Man In Wheelchair Leads To Alexandria Man's Conviction

A jury in DC found an Alexandria man guilty of shooting at a man in a wheelchair, a friend who he was having an argument with.

WASHINGTON, DC — An Alexandria man was found guilty last Thursday of a shooting attempt of a man in a wheelchair in northeast DC.

The conviction of Richard Nduba, 39, of Alexandria came from a jury in DC federal court. Nduba was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence in relation to an August 2022 incident in DC's H Street area.

According to prosecutors, Nduba was having an argument with the victim, a friend who is wheelchair bound, outside Walmart at 99 H Street NW around 7 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2022. After the argument, the victim went to the 800 block of 1st street NW next to the Walmart’s loading dock to speak on the phone.

Nduba reportedly circled the block in a rental SUV and located the victim. When he found the victim, he pointed a handgun at the victim and shot at him twice, according to prosecutors. Although both shots missed the victim, he pretended to have been hit and played dead. Police later found a bullet hole in Walmart’s loading dock door where the victim was during the shooting.

The jury's verdict came after a three-day trial. Sentencing is scheduled for April 21.
