Tuesday May 13 the Old Town Theatre presents a special Songwriter Showcase. The Featured Performer is guitarist and vocalist Sol Roots. Also on the bill are The Glimpses, Divining Sage, and Craig Cummings. Patty Reese and Ron Goad of the Songwriters Association of Washington host the event.

Sol Roots is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured the world with many roots, funk, and blues legends. Sol and his band create a unique blend of rock, blues, reggae, and raw funk, all delivered with deep soul, performing tasty original tunes and bluesy, greasy jams. Sol Roots has toured across the east coast U.S. at many premier festivals and venues and have been on bills with Dumpstaphunk, Soulive, Jon Cleary, The Wood Brothers, Robert Randolph, Jackie Greene, Eric Lindell, Walter Wolfman Washington and more.

Sol has performed on stage and in the studio with musical heavyweights Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and with the international guitar hero Cool John Ferguson, who he performed with steadily for years. Sol has soaked in much from funk, blues, and soul heroes such as Roy Lee Johnson, Albert White, and Robert Lee Coleman, while touring and gigging with these artists. Sol also created a buzz with his underground modern blues, hiphop influenced album entitled Volume: Blue, that carried him overseas to perform these sets live.

Paying homage to the greats, Sol seeks to push musical boundaries and bring Roots Music to a new generation of listeners.

“Sol is an impressive guitar player! Sol has an assured, confident voice that matches well with the bravado of his guitar playing. The album ‘Freedom’ proved to be quite a discovery for me.... “- J. Evan Wade - Home Grown Music Network

“Sol is an exceptional guitarist & a wonderful spirit....with an extraordinary ability to fit the perfect approach and composition.”- Fred Cannon - a Senior VP at BMI

Also performing are The Glimpses, a folk rock duo. Drawing inspiration from traditional folk, blues, country, rock, & jazz, singer/songwriter Mercedes Mill & multi-instrumentalist & producer Matthew Leonard create soulful tunes, steeped in haunting melodies & honeyed harmonies. Their live performances are warm and intimate. They’ve played throughout the region, including at Iota, the Mountville Folk Festival, the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, the Corner Store, DC9, and the DC Green Festival.

Performance also by Craig Cummings. Craig uses his strong voice & rhythmic guitar style to help him tell interesting stories of heartbroken lovers, down-on-their-luck drifters, & road trips with no destination. His songs are filled with hooks that stay in the listener’s head long after the show has ended. Craig continues to present energetic performances and seldom misses an opportunity to share his songs with new listeners. His influences range from 70’s era singer-songwriters such as Jackson Browne, Neil Young, and Townes Van Zandt to more contemporary southern artists such as Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, and Ryan Adams. Craig uses his strong voice and rhythmic guitar style to help him tell interesting stories of heartbroken lovers, down-on-their-luck drifters, and road trips with no destination. Austin and Nashville call his name, but Baltimore owns his heart.

And you’ll love Ricardo White of Divining Sage - Urban trance guitar with blue notes & delightful percussion supplied by Ron Goad and special guests.

Tickets $10
