Sidewalk Sale Announced For August In Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The 10th annual Alexandria Summer Sidewalk Sale, a weekend full of deals at Alexandria's small businesses, will happen this year on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11.

The sale features more than 50 Alexandria businesses offering merchandise with discounts up to 80 percent off. These end-0f-summer savings apply to items covering fashion, jewelry, home decor, seasonal gifts, culinary goods and more. Many of the stores will open at 9 a.m. Saturday to kick off the sale. You can find participating businesses displaying a yellow balloon.

New this year are activities outside the stores and along King Street. Activities include lemonade stands, a rose bar, a snow cone machine, giant Jenga, a bubble bar, mosaic-making demonstrations, an airbrush stencil activity, a steam clean jewelry station, sidewalk chalk art and a mini make-and-take project.

The Alexandria Visitor Center and 913 King Street will host bluegrass and folk performances by Alexandria Symphony Orchestra musicians from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a pop-up art studio by Kyo Gallery and refreshments from McEnearney Commercial at 913 King Street.

Shoppers browsing around with their dogs have a spot to recharge at the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa. The hotel will offer complimentary gourmet pet treats and water bowls Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Pet owners can received complimentary food and Parisienne Punch from the hotel's Brabo Brasserie Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and complimentary boozy Otter Pops and Parisienne Punch from Brabo Tasting Room Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The hotel will also host a pop-up of Alexandria-based skincare line Nourish & Refine Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Shoppers have a chance to win giveaways leading up to the Sidewalk Sale. The top prize is a one-night stay at the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa. Each comment tagging a unique person gets you one entry. A random winner will be chosen on July 29.

Other giveaways include Visit Alexandria's $25 gift card giveaways on Aug. 2 and 9 on Instagram, and Old Town Boutique District's Instagram photo contest. For the Old Town Boutique District contest, users can take a photo of their favorite Sidewalk Sale deal with hashtags #shopOTBD #LoveLocalOT to win a gift card to a store of their choice.
